from Tiffani Bradberry, Activity Director
March has been good to us and we have a lot of news to share with you. I almost don't know where to begin, we have been so busy. First I'd like to mention those that received special recognition from the Resident's Council in March. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10351 was named our Volunteers of the Month, Vivian Weaver our Resident of the Month, and Lydia White and Lois Thomas our Employees of the Month. Thanks to each of you for the special touch you bring to our home!
Our volunteers have kept us going all month. The first full week found us spending time with the First Baptist Church, the Church of Christ, Fairdale Baptist Church, Yellowpine Baptist Church, the Hemphill Garden Club, the American Legion and Doug from Odyssey Hospice. There was something to do each day and we sure thank everyone who came to share with us.
The next week we didn't let up any. We enjoyed our time with the First Baptist Church, Fairdale Baptist Church, the Church of Christ, and our newest volunteer group, the Macedonia Baptist Church Mission Ladies. These ladies have pledged to come monthly with homemade cakes and spend some social time with our residents. The cakes were delicious, and we enjoyed the singing and fellowship. One of the members, Shirlean Garner, has also agreed to come a couple times a month to help with manicures. We sure need the help! We ended the week with our first party of the month. We celebrated St. Patrick's Day with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10351. Everyone wore the clover necklaces that the Garden Club had helped to make, and the Ladies Auxiliary brought homemade cupcakes, green of course! Tina Rogers brought Irish music to listen to, and everyone had a blast. Thanks Tina, for another fun party!
Things got real interesting the week of the 19th. The Church of Christ was in for Bingo on Monday, Fairdale Baptist Church on Tuesday for singing and Bible study, and the First United Methodist Church came to be with us on Wednesday. And then we all went on vacation! Well, sorta. The first ever, and first annual, Luau was held at our home. We had a Hawaiian theme going all week, and the pig began roasting Wednesday evening to be ready for lunch on Thursday. Our owners were on hand doing the outside cooking and greeting all the guests. We held the luau to show appreciation to our health care industry and fire and police departments, as well as our resident's and their families. We sure enjoyed spending the afternoon with everyone who came. Special thanks to our management company, Gulf Coast LTC Partners, and all our staff here who worked so hard to make everything festive and tasty. I can't wait to do it again next year! We started something new on Friday and I think it's going to be a hit month to month. Marti Bible and Sandy Webb sang Karaoke for us, and I believe more are going to join in next month. Possibly some of our residents, who knows, the next American Idol may be right here in Sabine County. If you would like to come up and sing with us, be here the last Friday in April, we'd love to have you.
This week finds us enjoying spring, and more fun with our dedicated volunteers. Parkway Baptist Church was here on Monday, Fairdale Baptist Church on Tuesday, Bethany Baptist Church and the Church of Christ each on Wednesday, and on Thursday the 29th Sis Morton from Pine Park Pentecostal Church brought our cakes for our monthly resident's birthday party. Dave and Pinky Moore came to help and take pictures of the birthday honorees. Celebrating this month were Roy Townsend, Sherry Mobley, Jewel Weeks, Louie Kilgore, Whitman Johnson, R. L. Tate and James Maxson. Happy Birthday again all! Tomorrow we are looking forward to our monthly Fat Fred's Pizza Party, yummy! And on Saturday we are getting a special treat when Ronny Toney comes to play some country music for us, I'll let you know how it turns out!
Don't forget to mark your calendars and bring the kiddos to our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Weiner Roast at 1 o'clock on Good Friday. We always have a great time and enjoy watching our staff's and resident's kids and grandkids search for eggs. We plan to do a little fishin' in April as well. I may be calling on you to come clean some fish! Also, if you haven't heard, we have hit the big time. That's right, Hemphill Care Center now has it's very own web page! Visit us on the web at www.hemphillcarecenter.com and use the link to send a message to your favorite member of our home. We deliver the messages daily to our residents and they are sure enjoying them.
And that about does it for our news from March. Don't forget to come out and see what we're up to in April. Until next time, take care and God Bless.
